Being a museum educator has made me more aware of the characteristics of different communities and has given me a better grasp of collaborative learning around core themes. These two aspects are crucial for my involvement in art education, as they provide me with more specific directions and guidelines when designing and evaluating my teaching or creative work.
One particularly impactful teaching moment was during a Family Day workshop, where children and their families participated in a workshop set in a dark room, creating an imaginary city with light and shadows. As the workshop came to a close, the curtains were slowly drawn open, revealing a panoramic view of the cityscape along Victoria Harbour. The children excitedly approached the windows, eagerly identifying the details of the city as if seeing them with fresh eyes. In that moment, I also gained a different understanding of the familiar scenery because of their enthusiastic gazes. When we approach the world with curiosity, we can truly live in it and be touched by it.
